Taurus — Sapphire
Our records mark sapphire as an official Taurus birthday stone, and the Tibetan mystical tradition independently assigns it to May. Two separate lines of evidence converging on one stone is reason enough to lead with it.
Taurus is ruled by Venus and built for the long horizon. It wants beauty that lasts, security that holds, and judgements it will not have to revisit. That last quality is where sapphire does its work.

Sapphire is the Stone of Wisdom, and the wisdom in question is specifically the kind that cannot be acquired through study — the sort that arrives through experience and then has to be spoken honestly to be worth anything. Worn by royalty, scholars and clergy throughout history as a symbol of honest judgement and divine favour, it carries a strong association with integrity.
It works through the Throat and Third Eye chakras: expression and insight, joined.
For May-born people, that fills a real gap. May is a month of growth and social abundance, and its particular hazard is agreeableness — saying the pleasant thing because the season seems to call for it. Where emerald deepens connection, sapphire keeps it honest.

A Note on the Generic Stones
Two of May's verified assignments name agate, which we carry only as named varieties rather than as a generic stone. The Ayurvedic list assigns agate to May, and the Hebrew biblical reading gives agate or chalcedony. Ancient sources used both terms loosely for banded chalcedony generally, without distinguishing the varieties we now sell separately. The assignments are genuine; the stone as those traditions meant it has no single modern equivalent in our range.
A Note on Sources
Every stone above comes from a documented birthstone list. The modern assignment derives from the 1912 National Association of Jewelers list as amended, confirmed by the GIA and the American Gem Society. The traditional assignment comes from the Polish list of the 16th to 18th centuries. The Mystical list is Tibetan and dates to at least 1000 CE; the Ayurvedic and Hindu lists originate in the Indus Valley around 1500 BCE. The Hebrew and Arabic assignments derive from readings of the Breastplate of Aaron following Josephus in the first century CE.
